In 1982 I was recruited to become a clinical faculty
member of the Kaiser Physical Therapy Residency Program
in Manual Therapy after presenting a research paper at
the National APTA conference in Anaheim, California. At
that point in time my wife (Edie) was pregnant with our
first child and we were living in South Bend, Indiana.
Edie was concerned about moving California since it was
too far from our families. Well, in January 1984 I
joined the clinical faculty and Edie, our 6 month old
daughter and our dog Tucker moved to California. We
settled in Castro Valley and lived there for 10 years,
then moved to our current residence in Danville, CA in
1994.
Professionally I have been very active in Physical
Therapy. I have served on the Board of Directors of the
Orthopaedic Section, the Board of Directors of the
International Federation of Manipulative Therapists and
was a founding Fellow and first president of the
American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical
Therapists (AAOMPT). I have owned my physical therapy
practice (Redwood Orthopaedic Physical Therapy, Inc.)
with Edie since 1987. Over the years with my colleagues
at my practice, I taught a year long manual therapy
program for 18 years while continuing with my teaching
and consulting for the Kaiser Fellowship program.
Edie and I now have two grown daughters who are college
graduates and currently working in the business world.
One daughter lives in New York City while our youngest
daughter lives in San Francisco. During their formative
years both daughters played competitive soccer and
became avid skiers and snow-boarders. In the early years
of their soccer careers, I coached numerous teams,
however, once they achieved the competitive/traveling
team status, Edie and I became spectators of hundreds of
games. As a family we spent as much time as we can at
our mountain home at Lake Tahoe enjoying golf, snow
skiing and hiking.
